Courage is the most important of all virtues, because without it we can't practice any other skill with consistency.
After 30 years of immersion in the Business and Mentorship world, I've learnt a few things about Leadership, Power, Grit and Initiative, that I wish I'd learnt three decades ago, living as a woman constricted by segregation, politics and societal norms, faced every single morning I stepped through my front door.?
However, I grew up in a culture of strong?leadership?in our intellectually and politically busy home and that made the big difference to how I've navigated my life ever since.
Embedding the beliefs I hold of life, helped my learning curve and gave me the confidence to do the things that many people enduring my circumstances at the time, thought were impossible. When those around you say you'll never amount to anything because you are the ' wrong look' [or] 'wrong sound'. Then I have a strong message for you.
Never under-estimate your value, or ability. Never deprecate yourself, or deflate your accomplishments, in order to conform, or to appear humble. It's one thing to be unpretentious, but it's another thing to aim low, out of fear of looking like a braggart. Always speak up and say things that add value to people around you.
I've learnt not to be satisfied with just a seat at the table. I will say and contribute thoughts and actions that drive the discussion to new places and compel people to listen and consider alternate views. Remember your unique perspective, which is a necessary part of the discussion, will not be heard unless you take a risk and speak up.
You can have it all, but you can't do it all alone. Picking between a career and a family is a false choice. Instead, I chose to focus on the women (and men) who showed me that I could do both. Always embrace, not minimize your uniquely female attributes. Thinking collaboratively or having emotional intelligence is not a liability, or something you need to change.
You don't have to dress in a suit, be "bitchy" "be more like a man" or even "bossy" to get extraordinary results. "Nice girls don't get to the corner office" should not be the lexicon. Do less leaning in and more standing up and speaking up.
Stand up for yourself and the way you want to live and work, with balance, meaning and true authenticity. You will be a living example that you don't have to choose between your authentic truth and being massively successful.
I help women lose their negative fear and 'flat lining' to align their feminine and leadership worth. Change your level of conscious thinking, using my three basic coaching principles.
