Lead Her Forward: A Recap of EPIC for Girls’ Sports Week

National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is always a special occasion, but this year, EPIC for Girls took it to the next level with its Lead Her Forward Sports Week: a celebration of representation, opportunity, and the power of women in athletics. Through partnerships with local collegiate and professional teams, EPIC for Girls created unforgettable moments for young female athletes while raising crucial funds to continue its mission.
The week kicked off with high energy and an incredible turnout at the Omaha Supernovas game. Nearly 100 young girls from EPIC’s partner programs participated in the high-five tunnel.
"To see the girls' faces light up at the opportunity to high-five professional players they admire was just what we were hoping this event would provide,” said Kimberly Thomas, EPIC for Girls’ executive director.
Another standout moment came when four young girls from EPIC partner?JSSA Volleyball?took the stage at the athlete meet and greet to interview professional players, including LOVB volleyball player Lexi Rodriguez and Omaha Queens FC Captain Eliany Parras. The chance to sit beside their idols and ask meaningful questions was exactly the kind of empowering opportunity EPIC exists to create, said Thomas.

With the community's support, EPIC for Girls has raised $1,072 so far, and thanks to a matching donor, that total has doubled to $2,144.
While funding is critical, representation is just as important. NGWSD fell during Black History Month, making this celebration even more meaningful. It was an opportunity to honor the Black women athletes who paved the way while reaffirming EPIC for Girls’ commitment to equity, inclusion, and opportunity for all girls in athletics.
