AIR6500 is the Royal Australian Air Force’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that maximises the sensor capabilities offered by 5th Generation systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, improving situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making in the joint engagement zone.

We seek a highly experienced Lead Hardware Engineer, who can work on the proposal and related contracts as well as simultaneously define the hardware solution and interfaces in the architectural model. You will be assessing hardware related requirements, develop the approach for deployable, ruggedized solutions for packaging COTS hardware, also providing technical leadership in support of the development of key AIR6500 technical documents and artefacts such as solution descriptions, trade studies and definition of requirements.
A high level of communication skills is paramount due to the interacting with various stakeholders and broader technical team.
Key Skills required:
- Knowledge of packaging for ruggedized, deployable land-based systems
- Extensive knowledge of infrastructure software technologies including virtualisation, multilevel security, cyber defence, network accreditation, information assurance, system management
- Superior analysis skills
- Understanding of MBSD and MBE principles
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure hardware technologies including computing (servers, clients, storage), network, cross domain solutions
- Concept development
You will ideally have a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (Hardware Engineering etc.) from a recognised institution, and/or equivalent experience/combined education.
This is a challenging role, that requires a passionate and hardworking individual, as well as the above this role will be developing BOE’s and assessing ABM related requirements, authoring RFI’s and RFT tech volume inputs.
