- We’re a mid market heavy civil GC, located mid Island, with a slower pace, a faster career track and a moderate climate. Close to everything, we’re close to Nananimo though you could live anywhere from Qualicum Beach, Ladysmith, Maple Bay, even Goldstream towards Victoria. An easy commute to the office.
- This is where the rest of Canada comes to?vacation.?In a cold year we may see 3-5 days of snow, it doesn’t stay long. Temperature, winter low at 2C, summer high of 29C.
- Real estate is still affordable. A five year old, 4bdrm, 2400 sq foot home, runs about $599k. Add to that the many affordable ocean view homes and golf courses, your new position will allow you to afford a high quality life style.
- Golf, hiking, all outdoors. The weather mountains and ocean views make this a wonderland.
- Fishing. This ocean is full of salmon. Everybody either has a boat or knows someone with a boat. You’re on the edge of the Straight of Georgia, the islands and inlets make it a natural destination for world class salmon fishing.
- Sailing, both cruising and racing, either on your own or organized by the many local yacht clubs. Yachts from 27’ club racer / cruisers, to larger 36’, 40’?ocean going Beneteau’s, and up. The Victoria to Maui International Yacht Race has been an annual event since 1965.
A Career position Lead Estimator, Heavy Civil
- The company is mid market, mid island member of a larger corporate group with a substantial 65 year history.
- Annual project revenues run from $50M to $100M. Larger projects valued at $200M+.?You’ll be working on a full range of interesting, large and small tenders. There is a call for your full range of experience.
- Our projects run throughout Western Canada, Northern BC, and of course Vancouver Island.?You work from our island office, travel is not generally required.
- Complex and unique heavy civil infrastructure competitive tenders
- You have some experience estimating, but I’d like this to represent a step forward in your career.
- The position Lead Estimator, Heavy Civil, (piling, transit, marine, bridge, environmental, excavation)
Your work day, responsibilities as Lead Estimator
- You are leading several other estimators, project coordinators, procurement administrator, contract manager, and more.
- Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, geotechnical information.
- Developing the work breakdown structure for estimates.
- Determining the best means and methods for estimates that provide the best value and competitiveness for proposals.
- Taking an estimate from start to finish and following estimating/tender process.
- Leading estimates, including estimate reviews.
- Assist in producing handover packages, developed for operations on successful tenders.
- Assist in creating submission Packages for tenders that are complete, accurate, and in a professional manner
Your experience and qualifications
- Practical experience is primary. Your years in civil construction regardless of the role will be the first consideration.
- Engineering diploma, degree or certificate are of value.
- Your employment history and the nature of the companies you’ve worked for.
- Direct industry experience, (heavy civil as outlined above).
The compensation package and relocation budget
- Salary range can be from ($XXX / call me, it's high enough), salary, bonus, etc.. This depends entirely on you, your experience, capability, role fit and how the company views your value on the team.
- Vacation, paid three weeks.

- Medical, dental
- Relocation allowance can be from $5,000 to $10,000. Depending on your situation.
