LDP drives graduates to build their own success stories

LDP drives graduates to build their own success stories

Kelsey Collier found her path in life, thanks in part to Chick-fil-A, Inc.’s Leadership Development Program (LDP). What she learned from the premier business leadership program now helps her guide daily operations for a growing youth-based ministry.?

“Whenever you’re talking about leading people and trying to achieve goals, LDP skills are very applicable, whether it’s in the restaurant industry or a nonprofit,” Collier said.?

Today, Collier is a regional director for operations for a global youth outreach ministry. She said much of her success as a leader comes from her days in LDP, an immersive experience that keeps participants on the road for 24 to 36 months, learning and executing what it takes to get multimillion-dollar operations up and running.?

She leaned into her LDP skills when she met a ministry director who said the organization needed more strategic guidance as it experienced a strong period of growth.??

Collier has helped the organization build processes for hiring, retention, financial health and more – all of them skills burnished by her LDP experience.?

“The ministry had doubled the number of staff the past several years,” Collier said. “They were still doing things like they always had, but it wasn’t serving them well. So, they needed someone to work with leadership and build new systems.”?

Focusing on positive impact?

Collier said LDP helped her discover her motivations and passions. She’s glad she stepped out of her comfort zone and experienced the concentrated focus delivered by LDP.?

“It's not going to be easy, but it's going to be worthwhile,” Collier said. “If you're up for the challenge, there's a lot to get out of it, but it's going to stretch you.”?

One of Collier’s big LDP learnings was working with people from all over Chick-fil-A. LDP keeps participants on the move, learning and deploying multiple skills to support a growing business.?

“If you can understand what people value or how they think, then you can communicate in a way that fits, and you get so much farther,” Collier said. “Now, I work with a 70-person staff, and each of them has a different area, and each of them has different problems they tackle, and different things they’re good at. All that makes me assess and tailor my approach.”?

Collier’s biggest challenge was learning how to not internalize external perceptions that may have differed from her own business opinions. Instead, she zeroed-in on the positive impact she could make, especially treating people with compassion.?

“You’re a human,” Collier said. “You’re not just a worker bee who comes in and does things. I really learned how to care for people, recognizing that their experience was going to be more than the sum of their education.”?
