Managers need to be partners and have an elevator speech as to why they are partnering with L and D. And don't forget, managers have to provide the feedback and the coaching after the training too.

"I am not sure I understand the question." Yes, I have heard this one from SMEs. The problem is that SMEs know the process but they often have low business acumen. Their manager never took the time to explain how their work impacts the business.
