LCAM and GREAT Legal Services roundtable discussion on global developments in arbitration
London Chamber of Arbitration and Mediation (LCAM)
Efficiency. Innovation. Resolution. Achieving fast, innovative and cost-effective dispute resolution for businesses.
#LCAM was delighted to partner with the Ministry of Justice UK GREAT Legal Services campaign for their ‘GREAT Legal Futures’ programme at the #IBAMiami, and host a roundtable discussion on global developments in #arbitration.
The International Bar Association (IBA) annual conference draws senior legal experts from around the world to exchange ideas and harness collaboration that advances the role of international law in business and society.
LCAM’s Advisory Board Member Claire Broadbelt chaired the session which provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the world of arbitration today, impacts and challenges of the wider geopolitical and economic context and the role of mediation in relation to arbitration. It was clear that sanctions is having an effect in a number of jurisdictions. Arbitration is growing in importance in the Caribbean and Nigeria and the current inflationary environment is leading to more contractual disputes.
A key topic discussed was the rise of arbitration centres, and LCAM is proud to be positioned at the heart of one of these, London being a leading centre of dispute resolution with 40% of all corporate arbitration taking place under English law.
There was an international consensus that there is still so much more to be done in striving for diversity in its widest sense when appointing Arbitrators and Mediators which is a collective responsibility shared by the parties to disputes, practitioners and the institutions. LCAM is proud to champion diversity with its Panel of Arbitrators and Mediators and a signatory to the Arbitration Pledge and Equal Representation for Expert Witnesses Pledge.

LCAM is also an important component of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), helping to champion London’s leading position as the preeminent global city for business.
The expediency of LCAM’s services keeps the wheels of business turning, avoiding costly and drawn-out court proceedings – and enabling international trade and investment.
LCAM was proud to be alongside the Ministry of Justice UK and the Department for Business and Trade at the IBA, to fly the flag for British rule of law and the UK legal services sector.
