A Lazy Way To Come Up With Blog Ideas

A Lazy Way To Come Up With Blog Ideas

One of the biggest challenges I had to face when training was from attendees saying that they would get stuck at the ideas stage.

I would talk about creating content, promoting that content and getting people to take action but a lot of the attendees would be stuck on what to create in the first place.

I then built into my training a number of ways to come up with ideas quickly regardless if you are good at generating ideas or not. If there is a way to short cut a process I am always interested.

Okay, you can come up with ideas quickly…but so what?

Ideas are pretty worthless now….and for someone who has always worked in a creative industry where my job was to come up with ideas all the time, this was a tough pill to swallow. The reality is anyone can come up with ideas (especially with what I am about to show you), but the money is in the execution.

As Jesse Eisenberg aka Mark Zuckerberg said in The Social Network:

“You know, you really don’t need a forensics team to get to the bottom of this. If you guys were the inventors of Facebook, you’d have invented Facebook.”

So here is one way you can come up with ideas for blog posts, or any form of content, so you can focus on executing.

I have broken it down to 4 points and also included a powerpoint presentation so you can visually see what to do step by step.

  1. Go to www.hubspot.com/blog-topic-generator. (This is a free site)
  2. Fill out the form. (Fill in the fields with ideally nouns that you’d like to write about. The tool will come up with 5 relevant blog post titles in seconds!)
  3. Analyse results to see if it is suitable to you. (You may want to tweak some of the titles to improve relevancy)
  4. If not relevant or you want more ideas, try again. (Try a few times. By doing this for a few minutes you can come up with at least 10 ideas to create content)

Here is the powerpoint presentation that includes an image breakdown:

Conclusion

As I said before, ideas are worthless without execution….but you still need a starting point. Without speaking to you, I know time will be a huge factor when it comes to doing what you need to do online. This is one way you can short cut that process.

Good luck

I like this. At the very least it generates a list of ideas that you might think are no good, which puts you straight into that “it shouldn’t be that, it should be this” frame of mind. It's like using the computer to play the role of the colleagues you might once have discussed this with.
