"Lazy-girl Job" - New Living Trend Of The Young

According to Google Research in 2023, 5 out of 10 young workers in Vietnam say they are putting in less than their maximum effort. Gen Z workers are looking for less stressful jobs but still pay a reasonable salary because they prioritize work-life balance.

"Lazy-girl job" is also known as the tendency to work "lazy" with light, low-stress jobs, sometimes without needing to go to the office. This is the outstanding living trend in 2023 that many young people have chosen.

"Lazy" here does not mean that people who work in this category are unmotivated or do not work hard. They will simply choose jobs with a salary that is enough for basic expenses, and flexible, allowing employees to have more free time for themselves instead of burying themselves in work.

However, this is also a controversial lifestyle that can lead to a lack of effort in building a career for young people in the future.

What you do after 7 pm will determine who you are in this life. That is the life perspective that Giang has chosen since this girl changed to a job that only worked office hours. Although she earns less money than before, Giang has more free time.

"I think if you make a lot of money and aren't happy, it's not worth it. Now I choose not to be pressured about money anymore, so this lifestyle makes me think less and can heal myself after work." stressful" - Giang said.

The ideal job of the "lazy-girl job" trend is to work freelance, receiving a moderate salary each month. This amount is enough for them to cover basic expenses for an adult without having to work overtime. And sometimes "laziness" is also the secret to working more effectively.

On the contrary, Trong Khoi believes that young people must strive to earn money and save for the future. So Khoi is willing to do 3 freelance jobs at the same time, but not more than 8 hours a day. Job selection criteria are also clear. You don't have to work with a difficult manager, your salary is too low, or you don't have to feel guilty about taking time off.

"Up to now, I have had 3 jobs: freelance photo model, tutor, and content creator. I don't want a stable job. Now that I freelance, I don't have pressure from my superiors, so I'm quite comfortable. mentally" - Khoi said.

Tran Minh Hoang (30 years old), a human resources manager in the marketing field, said he is not opposed to going to work but finds the culture of constantly working is quite "toxic". Furthermore, Mr. Hoang does not think that "lazy-girl" is lazy.

“The pandemic has “pushed” us to remote work. With flexible working hours, people will have more time for family and friends. That means that regardless of age or profession, we can choose to be "lazy" if it does not affect the overall quality of work," Mr. Hoang shared.

Psychologist Pham Thi Thao Nguyen, who has spent a lot of time researching young people's work trends, believes that the word "lazy" in the phrase lazy-girl is intended to describe the opposite state. contrary to the hustle and bustle of the traditional work environment. This is not to say that people in this category are unmotivated or don't work hard.

“This perspective is more suitable for young people than for those who have a lot of experience in a fixed career. The most important thing to remember when deciding on the right path for you is to know what your priorities are. If you are goal-oriented and enjoy thriving in a high-pressure environment, then a challenging job may be right for you.

On the other hand, if you are someone who sees work as a means to connect socially, to avoid being too free... or you don't have to worry too much about living expenses... then "lazy-girl job” is not a bad choice.

Each of us has a role to play in whatever work we do, and in an age where mental health struggles are acute, everyone needs to realize that ultimate success is what makes us truly satisfied. Whether it's a "lazy-girl job" or any other job, in the end, being healthy and happy is the most important thing," psychologist Pham Thi Thao Nguyen shared.
