Laying the Foundation for Success

Laying the Foundation for Success

Congratulations to Kevin Worrell on completing the NPCA Master Precaster program! This specialized training program encompasses a wide range of educational courses focusing on production, safety, technical?aspects, quality control, and leadership within the precast industry.

Kevin has worked at the Concord site in North Carolina for the past two years, transitioning to the role of Quality Control Manager nine months ago. He recognized early on the importance of gaining a deeper understanding of the precast world.

“I wanted to really know what I’m doing and learn about the industry so that I can bring information and insight to the table,” said Kevin.

Kevin learned a lot through the NPCA courses, but his biggest takeaway was that you should never do something the same exact way forever.

“The concrete industry is always changing and there’s always better?methods that are being learned,” said Kevin. “We should constantly be looking for new and better ways to do things.”

Kevin traveled to the NPCA Annual Precast Show in Denver, Colorado?earlier this month to receive his certificate and a golden hard hat.

“It’s one of those things where you work really hard for something and then you finally get that accomplishment and not only that, but you get to do it with the support of your company and all the people who took the courses with you.? It’s also great to see them accomplish their goals as well.”

He also acknowledged those who supported him along the way and noted the importance of having people in your life who can assist you in your journey and give you advice.?

“I had a few mentors. Joe Sikes (North Carolina Process Improvement Manager) is one and Eddie Odom (Denver’s Quality Control Manager). There’s been a lot of people that have poured into me and that I have been able to lean on.”

Kevin encourages others to pursue certifications through NPCA to better understand the industry and gain knowledge in the field.

“It’s hard work, but in the end, it’s worth it. It gives you a good base to stand on and it gives you things to strive for.”
