?? A decade of DexProtector
Our mobile app security product, DexProtector, is 10 years old!
To celebrate this special milestone, we sat down for a chat with Licel co-founders, Ivan Kinash , and Mikhail Dudarev.
In the interview they reflect on the fact that the digital world that we inhabit today is massively different to the one that DexProtector emerged into a decade ago.
They also share some of the most valuable lessons they've learned along the way and hint at what the next decade might have in store.
DexProtector might have turned ten, but in many ways we feel like its journey is only just beginning.
So, let's see this as the first few lines of the next chapter of the story. ??
?? How to boost your social engineering awareness
Imagine a typical morning on your way into the office.
As you sit on the train, your eyes dart from one part of your smartphone screen to the other. Your fingers scroll and swipe across hundreds of inputs in a matter of minutes.
Sometimes it takes a reminder from the physical world to bring you back from the other side of the dark screen. An announcement from the train driver, a flash of bright sunlight piercing through the windows opposite you, or the fluttering and buzzing of an insect's wings.
Cybercriminals know that the more engrossed you are on what's on the other side of the smartphone screen, the more likely it is that you'll fall for a scam.
They want you to be lost in the digital world when their bogus email or SMS pings on your phone because there's a better chance that you'll click on it without thinking.
In this article we share some tactics for boosting your social engineering awareness (and that of others around you).
?? How to incorporate mobile app security testing into your build pipeline
In order for a car to reach the dealer’s warehouse, a complex manufacturing process takes place behind the scenes.
The metal arriving at the factory is converted into the chassis. The spare parts are assembled together. And then a quality check is performed.?
Only then will the car be delivered to the dealers.
A similar process happens in software development - including mobile apps.
But where does security testing fit in?
The answer, as we explain in this article, is that it's actually a lot simpler than you might think. And it's definitely worth it - both for your company's continued growth and for maintaining the reputation you've built with your end users.

?? The interplay between threat intelligence and fraud scoring systems
The integration of threat intelligence into fraud scoring systems is a transformative approach that can significantly elevate your mobile security.
Data is powerful. By feeding reliable threat intelligence (or attack) data through to a fraud scoring system, you can set more robust rules in real-time for how to react to potential security issues.
Say some data alerts your fraud scoring system to the growing threat of new type of mobile malware. Risk scores for transactions originating from devices exhibiting similar behavior can be automatically elevated.
And this dynamic risk scoring can be further enhanced by the application of conditional logic based on the incoming threat intelligence.
?? Mind the Gap #2
In August we introduced a new series of articles penned by Licel CEO, Ivan Kinash, called Mind the Gap.
A play on the famous catchphrase from London's transport network, it explores the balance in the tech world between security and a desire to innovate and move quickly.
In this second edition, Ivan reflects on the Droidcon London conference. He shares an exciting update about the Licel website. And he takes a look at some attack data from our threat intelligence platform, Alice.
