Lawn Mowing, Covid & Other Musings
I don’t know about you, often my most creative and deepest thoughts occur while cutting grass. My push-mower and I are well acquainted. It rumbles away, varying its tone, depending on the length of time between mows and of course, the season. My cattle do the rest.
Today was a podcast day, necessarily loud to dull the drone of my Kohler (other mower brands available). Thankfully, not so much so as to distort and deafen.
The podcast content doesn’t matter, it is where my inner monologue went to. I have more than one small business interest, and in multiple industries. Combined and in usual circumstances, they work well for me, providing modest and comfortable income.
For the past two years (almost), each business in turn, has been tipped upside down and I have been scrambling to pull things back together and place back in the box. The truth is, only one of the businesses is back where it ought to be, the others ebb and flow with the mood of the nation, as many of you struggle with too. Or they are simply parked until attitudes and the economy changes, and in many cases, resigned to the shoebox under the bed.
My point??
We have all had to cut our cloth accordingly to things work for us, our employees and our customers. In business, most of us are here to serve, to help and support. There is absolutely no point getting angry about who’s doing what to whom, and the restrictions we continue to face.
We are all part of a well-connected group of industry people across all walks of life and nations. We engage with others here for many reasons. Inform, share, encourage, point score, give opinion, SHOUT! Sometimes we don’t see eye to eye. And that is ok.

I believe in choice. Others trust in mandates. Opinions are just that. Draw conclusions based upon your own findings. That too is ok.
I have become weary, like many of you, of uncertainty. Tribal fear in both corners. There may be a third, my ears are closed. I thought by not listening to or reading the news my mind would be free. And then came the traffic light system…phase 1-20… Ok, cynicism creeping in there. Blink, and I will miss which square to step into next.
I believe we should offer to help each other. There is a vast amount of experience and knowledge here, business and personal. Sharing of ideas, strategies, networks. Call, email, meet up. I do it locally without thinking, with people I know. I am sure many of you do too. It’s good to sit with like-minded people and share the load. Though not often enough. And it doesn’t have to be formal either. Think of it as a sharing of minds.
I’ll start this off – I am based in North Canterbury, happy to travel to meet. I have business interests in the following industries: imports Europe and Asia, Disinfectant, Property and Security.

3 年I'm with you on the mowing point. It's my happy place and I too ponder a lot of things whilst doing it. It's easy to forget what's going on in the world at home on the block. I'm struggling to keep my head out in the world. I'm angry, sad, fearful, stressed..... but as I find more people feeling the same it is some comfort.
