"Law is not for Women" they said!

From stepping into a male dominated profession to being trailblazers in the society, Women in this profession are lawyering their way up like rockets!?

As the Founder of a Law Firm which has a female workforce of more than 70%, it makes me immensely proud to witness this day. The Supreme Court was privy to a rare event yesterday- a bench comprising only women judges. Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud recently constituted an all-women bench. This will be the third time ever in the Supreme Court's history that a bench of woman judges will be hearing cases. In the history of the Supreme Court, there have been a mere eleven woman judges.

Earlier this year, The Law Ministry’s Department of Legal Affairs said that the percentage of women lawyers stood at 15.31% and that certainly means that we have a long way to go but the pace at which we are progressing towards gender inclusion in this profession is nothing but commendable.?

The reason for this gap for years has been?a combination of male dominance in the profession, lack of traditional gender roles where pursuing a career may not be an option for many women, and common myths like law is not for women! Not to mention psychological issues and the tussle between family and job, on the other hand, persisted throughout their lives for a lot of women. Journalism, Academia, and Medicine were among the first occupations to be influenced by feminism. Women’s admittance into the profession was only possible after long and drawn-out legal fights, but even then, female participation was minor to none until the late twentieth century. If anything, in the Indian Courts, the ‘She’ toilets are either missing, un-operational or locked in a shocking number!?

Fast forwarding to today, we seem to have paved the way ahead fiercely and fearlessly. The battle is no longer focused on external challenges, public opinion is less antagonistic, and women now have a superfluity of opinions and options.?

Little milestones on a day-to-day and the magnificent ones like this one have collectively been accolades of how our country has witnessed notable societal transformations in the recent times. It has been Revolutionary.?

Meanwhile, if your little girl speaks about becoming a lawyer, become the wind under wings!?
