Have you had the experience of a conversation that opens up small and big doors in your mind?
Recently, I joined a powerful community of trainers, coaches and entrepreneurs. One of the privileges we have is being able to connect with other delegates.
?In one such conversation today with Neilmani Sahu today, he mentioned the concept of life being about B-C-D. ?I got a clean visual of how our life lays itself out in front of us a map with a web of track choices. Which track we take, will define our destination.
#NLP explores the same principle of creating choices for yourself, and then mindfully (and with deeper change – effortlessly and unconsciously) choosing what is most resourceful for you and the outcome you desire.
So, one of my favourite and most impactful pre-suppositions of NLP is the law of requisite variety. I will come to this law in a bit but let me first share the gist of our conversation. How life is a journey from Birth to Death through a maze of choices.
B-Birth – zero choice, we are stuck with what we get
C-Choice filled life – the more choices you allow yourself, the more flexibility you will have. The choices you make will create your journey.
D-Death – zero choice, we are stuck with what we get.
What is the #LawOfRequisiteVariety?

This law says that?the most flexible element in the system generally controls the system.?I found the following video interesting...you may want to check it out.
In the recent soccer game of the #FIFA2022 final, I know you must have noticed how it is the team which has the most variable moves in its arsenal, that will win. It is about creating a buffet of choices. Maximum variability. Imagine if #Messi only knew one way to score a goal or the team had only two ways of passing the ball. But with maximum choices, they came out winners.
#NeuroLinguisticProgramming focuses on the same thought. With one option – you are stuck. Like at birth or death. With two options, the team will always be in a state of dilemma – how to pass the ball. With three or more options, everyone experiences the winning freedom, flexibility and choice.
In today's #VUCA world, with business and industry #transformation happening rapidly, our #LeadershipDevelopment has to be focused on the developing this flexibility. With generational gaps coming in every 5 years now, the #Leaders have to have the #MindsetFlexibility when they choose their best responses with their younger team mates. And you know, it is also a choice one is making when we look at things only a certain way. And only that way. Flexibility in viewing a situation differently allows for the situation changing for us.
Choices we regularly make
Making the choice to look for the positive or choosing to stay stuck in feeling like a victim? Choosing to step up for the challenge or opting out of the extra work? Choosing to blame or to praise? Choosing ego and arrogance or benevolence and faith? Choosing to see a different view or stand stubbornly rigid? Choosing the difficult right or the easier wrong?
We are what choices we make.
And we always have the choice. So, what doors are you opening up for yourself today, with the choices you are making?
Get in touch with me if you are stuck with feeling a certain way at work, or at home. And you know you want to choose different, but don’t know how. And lets explore your transformation through choices together.

1 年So beautifully explained! And such a great concept. As the NLP presupposition says- the heater the choices, the more the freedom and flexibility!
