Position Summary:

The?Development Manager?will work closely with the Director of Marketing and Partnerships and the National Director to generate new revenue streams for Laureus USA to ensure annual fundraising goals are met and the organization’s operating budget is secured. In addition to assisting with the renewals of current funding streams, the position has a goal of securing at least $1M in new revenue for Laureus USA within the first 18 months of employment. Given the organization’s current funding streams and priorities, it is anticipated that this will primarily be via Foundation/Institutional grants and experience in sourcing, securing and managing these grants is crucial.?The?Development Manager?will?be responsible for identifying, building, cultivating and managing relationships that result in funding for Laureus USA, including managing a grant pipeline process. This will require hands-on delivery, with longer-term ambitions of building out the fundraising team when revenues allow/necessitate that.

The?Development Manager?will have an outreach role in the organization in addition to office-based work, collaborating with other colleagues and the Programs team to raise funds for Laureus USA. This includes raising money for our flagship programmatic initiative, Sport for Good Cities. This role will also support individual giving as necessary, and involves working with board members, building relationships with funders, collaborating with staff and key partners, and liaising with the Laureus Global Development team. This role will also require some travel.

OBJECTIVES/GOALS FOR DEVELOPMENT MANAGER/SENIOR DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Fundraising:

  • Research and Identify grant opportunities for funding.
  • Write grant proposals and/or create proposal decks for funding opportunities.
  • Manage and monitor grants and prepare funding reports.
  • Manage Salesforce platform specifically for fundraising purposes
  • Develop best practices to improve overall fundraising for Laureus USA.
  • Assist in budget preparation and expense management activities for Laureus USA programs.
  • Identify and cultivate new potential funders
  • Work closely with Laureus USA Programs Team to ensure ongoing learning opportunities are maximized and presented accurately for grant proposals.
  • Strengthen networking with donors, foundations, and other relevant organizations to develop partnerships and collaborations
  • Develop proposal budgets in coordination with the Director of Finance, Director of Programs, and other relevant staff
  • Support individual giving as needed

Relationship Development:

  • Cultivate and steward relationships with key funders and decision makers to increase Laureus USA funding opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with relevant nonprofit organizations, government agencies, funders, schools, and other stakeholders that are working in or have an interest in sport for development.
  • Participate in initiatives and build strategic relationships where appropriate with potential donors, foundations, and corporations.
  • Be proactive in listening to sport for development professionals/program leaders to better understanding their challenge and needs and fundraise for solutions.
  • Facilitate introductions between various stakeholders where relevant
  • Manage internal relationships to ensure funding opportunities are properly communicated to relevant staff and processes are in place to apply for, secure and maintain funding (including funder reports)

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

Fundraising Track Record:

  • Must have a proven record of securing six and seven-figure grant funding, involving direct recent responsibility for that work rather than management of a team, especially from major institutional donors and foundations. Government grant experience a plus.
  • Direct (and demonstrably successful) grant writing experience and a desire for writing grants.

Local and National Knowledge:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the sport for development, youth development, and philanthropic sectors nationally, and ideally in our Sport for Good Cities (Atlanta, Chicago, New Orleans, New York City), with strong existing relationships with potential funders.
  • 5-plus years of experience within a non-profit organization with a deep understanding of non-profit operations, including fundraising, finance, HR, programs, and monitoring and evaluation.

  • Detail-oriented project manager that can multitask, meet strict deadlines, and manage external grant funded relationships.
