Athena Woolsteen, a Baldwin Wallace University alum, utilized knowledge from her bachelor’s degree in Pre-Physical Therapy and Exercise Science to create a physical therapy business of her own. Bee Well Physical Therapy provides patients with personalized, one-on-one care, finding the root causes of their pain so that they can get back to doing what they love.?

The Vision

Bee Well Physical Therapy is passionate about providing exceptional care for each and every patient. After watching her mother experience a non-personalized and ineffective physical therapy program, Woolsteen noticed how rare it is for patients to find a practice where they can get a full, uninterrupted hour with a healthcare professional. Changing that narrative, Woolsteen notes that, “at Bee Well Physical Therapy, we believe in physical therapy done ‘the right way.’” Woolsteen and her company do this by treating all of their patients with personalized, one-on-one treatments centered around the specific goals of each patient. Bee Well’s core values are their 3 C’s: commitment, consistency, and community. Bee Well Physical Therapy is committed to caring for each patient, provides consistent care without passing patients off to different practitioners each session, and gives patients the opportunity to be part of a community of like-minded people who achieve their goals and prioritize their health.?

Getting Inspired

Since Woolsteen’s dream physical therapy job didn’t exist, she had to create it for herself. “I am on a mission to re-humanize the physical therapy experience. Creating my own practice allows me to give my patients the care and attention that they deserve.” Woolsteen remains inspired by her patients everyday. “It is really a special thing to be trusted to care for others at a vulnerable time in their lives. The perseverance and dedication that my patients display during these moments of hardship or adversity is very inspiring.”

The Bee Well Way

Bee Well Physical Therapy utilizes a three step process to help their patients succeed. First is identifying the root cause. Through an initial evaluation, Bee Well identifies the cause of each patient's pain, listening to each individual's unique symptoms and health history and performing objective, individualized tests to assess each patient's condition. And, of course, Bee Well discusses the evaluation findings thoroughly with each patient. The next step for Bee Well patients is making the change. At follow-up sessions, Bee Well works with patients to “calm the storm” (in other words, get patients out of pain!), while incorporating appropriate strength and mobility techniques to help patients regain proper function. Finally, step three is achieving long term success. Bee Well works to empower each patient to achieve long term relief, helping patients get back to the activities they love by providing them with the tools to learn about their condition and take charge of their health.???

Overcoming Challenges and Looking Ahead

For Woolsteen, the biggest challenge in her journey is spreading the word about her business. Since she is not contracted with any hospitals, doctors, or insurance companies, Woolsteen has worked hard to network and create a following in her community. Looking ahead, Woolsteen hopes to continue growing her business to help more members of her community. “My vision is to be the ‘go-to’ physical therapy business in Medina, Ohio.”?
