LaunchNET Supports Online Thrift Store

Noah Mowery , a senior Business Management & Human Resource Management Double Major at Baldwin Wallace University with a passion for sustainability and a desire to provide an alternative to the fast fashion industry, founded The Thrifting Tree , an online thrift store aimed at providing carefully curated clothing at a price point affordable to various types of consumers.

The Vision

In a world saturated with fast fashion and overconsumption, The Thrifting Tree prioritizes offering second-hand clothing at a reasonable price. Mowery was motivated to create The Thrifting Tree by the thought of promoting eco-conscious shopping practices while curating vintage, unique clothing. “We wanted to give pre-loved items a second chance while offering consumers an affordable and stylish way to shop sustainably.”

Sustainable Style

“The Thrifting Tree's mission is to curate the best selection of vintage clothing for our customers. Each item is chosen with our brand identity and aesthetic in mind to cultivate an audience who shops and appreciates our selection of sustainable products.” This handpicked selection of vintage clothing is what sets The Thrifting Tree apart. Along with maintaining high standards for style and quality, The Thrifting Tree prioritizes affordability so that sustainable fashion can be accessible to all. “Our dedication to merging sustainability with affordability in a world of overconsumption is our hallmark.”

Staying Inspired

“As an entrepreneur, I'm inspired by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. The thought of reducing fashion waste, promoting sustainability, and offering people a chance to express themselves through vintage clothing drives my passion.” Mowery is also strongly motivated by his customers’ stories of finding individuality and joy in the clothes that The Thrifting Tree curates. “Watching a community grow around a shared mission to challenge overconsumption and embrace thoughtful shopping practices keeps me excited about the journey ahead.”

Overcoming Challenges

“One of the biggest challenges has been educating consumers on the value of second-hand clothing and overcoming misconceptions associated with thrifted items.” Mowery notes that another challenge has been maintaining a balance of affordability while still maintaining high-quality product standards and profitability. “I've overcome both of these challenges by focusing on things other than listing price as a seller and really advertising the products for how cool and sustainable they are.” Doing this, Mowery has been able to translate his message of sustainability and style to The Thrifting Tree customers and sell items with greater ease.?

Looking Ahead

“My vision is to sustain and expand The Thrifting Tree into a recognized brand synonymous with sustainability, quality, and style.” Mowery plans to continue curating unique vintage items while growing The Thrifting Tree’s customer base and continuing to hold pop-up events and collaborations to further advocate for sustainable fashion. “There's some really exciting stuff in the works for this semester!” One thing to look forward to this semester is Mowery’s Pop-Up Shop on Friday, March 21st in the Strosacker Student Union starting at 10am!?
