Launching Unlocked, our opportunity network

At every company, there are undiscovered projects that could be a great fit for someone looking for a new challenge. In other cases, chances are missed to gain a mentor from a completely different part of a business.
If we can do a better job of connecting people to these opportunities, it could help the whole company grow and give employees chances to try new things, learn and expand their networks.
To do that, we just launched 'Unlocked' – our opportunity network – globally to all employees. Unlocked allows employees to post and look for opportunities – including short-term projects, mentorship and volunteering opportunities – within Mastercard. ?It began as a way to explore a new approach to work ?for our worldwide and growing 23,000+ Mastercard colleagues – to be more agile and share different skill sets. It’s evolved to take on many of the challenges we face in the workforce – needing to collaborate in hybrid workspaces, supporting our team’s wellbeing, and recruiting and retaining top talent.
This program helps us put learning, growth and development at the center of everything we do.
Unlocked was built by employees, for employees. And I’m so proud that now our colleagues will have access to these opportunities.

The value we are building
Our employees told us they want more opportunities to grow and develop themselves. We listened and worked to build a program that makes career and development opportunities readily available to everyone.
Our goal was to help employees build the skills, experience and connections they need to fulfill their longer-term ambitions while delivering for today.
Sometimes we have team members who are looking for unique skills to fill a gap on a project team or urgently need another short-term team member to push a project over the finish line. When people post a project on Unlocked they are tapping into the full talent pool at Mastercard.
With Unlocked, we can collaborate across regions and business units, uncover new ideas, challenge assumptions and push one another to think in bold new ways. Unlocked is allowing us to open up the boundaries of our teams, expand our talent reach – to ultimately grow and develop with each other.
What’s coming next
This is just the start for Unlocked. It’s a key part of our journey to work in new ways.?
Customer service and support. Conference Production and event management experience. Adept and experienced in working with clients, managing expectations and solving problems.

3 年Great article! Great idea. This has likely been a big change for how things are handled and how projects are pushed over the finish line at Mastercard. Change usually turns out better when people feel like they are part of shaping the change vs. having change pushed down onto them. Michael Fraccaro, learning, growth, and expanding internal networks are certainly huge potential benefits of the program. Something that didn't surface in the article is the role of employee strengths. Growth for the sake of growth (i.e., I need to learn this to do my job) isn't necessarily guaranteed to help you retain employees as some have suggested; however, allowing employees choice to pursue their strengths, the things that give them energy and that they have the potential to be great at has been proven to increase retention. This starts to get at the core of intrinsic motivation. I'm wondering what role strengths play and if you use Clifton, Strengthscope, or another tool to help employees navigate Unlocked and determine what opportunities to pursue (e.g., mentoring vs. a strategic project).
