Launching Patreon Engineering Internship Program ??

At Patreon, we believe in powering creators to do what they love. This past summer, we welcomed in our first intern class to join our teams and help us bring this mission to life.?

Our cohort of 12 software engineering interns worked across our San Francisco and New York offices on impactful projects alongside their peers.

Program Highlights

Beyond their technical projects, our interns immersed themselves in Patreon’s culture and their new city! Here were some of the many things our interns did:?

Hamilton Broadway show and Comedy Cellar in NY

Patreon Intern Summit where all of our interns came to SF HQ for 3 days, which included:

Alden Cheung - University of Michigan, BS 2024

Android Creator Profile Editor

Alden introduced user bios and added the ability to view other patrons’ profiles, edit one’s own profile, and block other users. These improvements encourage users to discover and engage with creators and other patrons, fostering a greater sense of community.


Amanda Yuan - University of Washington, BS 2024

For Creators: New Member Check-in

Amanda created a welcome survey for new members who just joined a creator's page. The survey asks the new members why they joined and displays aggregated statistics and individual responses This gives the creator insight into what motivated members to pledge.


Andrew Han - University of British Columbia, BS 2024

Creator Vanity Url Editing

Andrew enhanced the creation and editing process around for vanity urls – encouraging creators to adopt a custom url during onboarding, and have the flexibility to change it safely. These changes aim to encourage creators to think about their vanity url as a key branding identifier for their page.


Archna Sobti - University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, MS 2024

Preview Video 3rd Party Sharing

Archna revamped the video sharing experience, allowing creators to download previews of their video content to share on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Creators now have a seamless way to engage their fans on other platforms with rich media previews.


Caesar Feng - University of Waterloo, BS 2024

Creator Pledge Tier Editing

Caesar worked to allow creators to seamlessly edit the prices of tiers, a long-asked feature by many creators. Creator's currently do tedious workarounds to change their tier prices. Tier editing will make for a more seamless transition and will help with member retention.


Ibrahim Dharhan - Stanford University, BS 2024

Fan Traffic Insights?

Ibrahim provided creators with fan traffic insights to better understand the source and frequency of new fan visits. The data provides creators with insight on the effectiveness of off-platform promotions.?


Jerry Li - UC Berkeley, BS 2024

iOS Collection Curation

Jerry extended the functionality of the iOS app, bringing editing capability for collections to native mobile. This will help creators create, edit and add to their collection in a lightweight way, allowing them to make changes while on the go.


Jonathan Li - Western University, BS 2024

Digital Commerce Shop Controls

Jonathan added a feature that allows creators to easily control the visibility of their digital commerce shop. This allows creators to choose when they want to actively sell their products – allowing for pre-populating prior to launch or pausing sales when creators take a break.


Patrick Song - Harvard University, BS 2024?

Social Sharing Insights?

Creators have long requested the ability to track the impact of their social media posts on driving new membership. Patrick helped creators quantify the impact of sharing to YouTube on new member growth.


Pedro Pagán - University of Puerto Rico, BS 2024

Payment Transaction Routing

Prior to Pedro’s work, Patreon relied on static routing rules to determine payment provider routing for a given transaction. This meant a deploy was required to update rules. Pedro built a smart routing system where rules were config driven and easily updated.


Yi Feng Y. - University of Waterloo, BS 2025?

Ad Hoc Script Manager

Yi Feng built an Ad Hoc workloads framework, allowing script authors to run ad-hoc Python workloads in production. The system improves visibility into ad-hoc execution for observability and auditing.


Yuheng Ding - Washington University of St. Louis, MS 2024

Native Video Player Enhancements

Yuheng added picture-in-picture mode, casting support (AirPlay, Chromecast) and a timeline preview on hover feature. The project enhanced video playback in different modes, increasing user engagement and satisfaction on the web platform.
