Launching our new organisation

Launching our new organisation

Today we marked another important milestone on our T22 roadmap with our new internal structure and ways of working taking effect. These changes are ultimately about removing complexity and enabling our teams to better serve our customers. Keen to be transparent about what’s going on here is the note I shared with our team this morning.

Good morning,

I am excited to mark another important milestone on our T22 roadmap with our new functional structure and operating model taking effect. From today, our structure becomes flatter and the nine functions we previously announced start operating as teams. This will help us to radically simplify our product offerings and increase the speed with which we respond to customer needs and changes in the market.

This milestone is just the start of a three year transformation that will see us evolve to become a markedly easier place to work at and do business with.

While today is a significant symbol of this transformation, some of the immediate changes will be more apparent for some groups than others. But it is important to understand the pace of change will increase over time and we need to remain focused on all of our priorities, particularly delivering on our Pillar 1 commitments to simplify our product set and eliminate customer pain points.

Our new structure and ways of working have been designed to address the impediments you told us get in the way – pain points like hierarchies, duplication, siloes and competing priorities. Your continued input is needed so we can iterate and evolve the way we work to best serve the needs of our customers. I ask that you please find your courage and call out any obstacles that get in the way of doing your job in our new structure so we can remove them quickly and further simplify how we work.

Key to our success will be collaborating across functions and trusting each other to deliver. Accountability for overall outcomes will now be shared and we will all work to a single corporate scorecard.

We will be transparent in tracking the progress of our transformation with our new T22 roadmap which outlines each milestone we need to achieve to deliver on our strategy. Collectively we are all accountable for reaching these milestones so I encourage you to familiarise yourself with the roadmap and understand your role and why it matters.

As we progress through our transformation, our organisation needs to be a fundamentally easier and more empowering place to work. We will be smaller and more nimble – roadblocks will be removed, collaboration will be rewarded, great ideas will be accelerated, and we will measure our time to market in weeks or days – not months.

By now you should have received an invitation to attend one of our Reimagine events to better understand our T22 strategy and transformation. These face-to-face events will be held in 17 locations across the world and will run from late October until mid-December. Please make the time to attend.

A lot of work has gone into getting us to this point. I want to thank those involved in the design of our structure and ways of working and everyone else for your patience and professionalism as we have worked through the progressive organisational announcements since 30 July.

I have said before that we are at a tipping point, a moment in time where we need to be more ambitious to meet our challenges. Greatly simplifying our structure and ways of working is a key pillar of our T22 strategy and I am really excited by the foundation this will provide for our future and continued market leadership.

When will you bring back the customer service team to Australia? As you would know it’s not working with them being abroad as they are unprofessional, no product knowledge, poor customer service. You take away jobs in Australia to go cheap and nasty by paying peanuts. Time to change the dynamic of Telstra and bring back good service. Stand up and take charge by bring jobs back to our shore.

The new organisation structure coupled with our organisation wide digitisation initiative is helping to drive Telstra toward a bright future. Coupled with our brilliant leadership like Michele Garra we are poised for an exciting new world.
