If somebody had told me a year ago that I would be writing a book about succeeding in the staffing industry, I would have told them they were insane!

But with all the changes in the market, I decided this was a much-needed resource and had the potential to be life-changing. So by February, I had started working with an editor to get the ball rolling – and the rest is history!

Here are some ideas you can ponder on – and perhaps you’ll recognize some of these challenges and issues from your own recruitment business?

?? When entrepreneurs start their staffing agency, they soon come to the realization that they have not launched or grown their business as they initially envisaged.

Instead, they are just making a few placements from home and are running into trouble securing new high-fee-paying clients.

While it’s true that they may be keeping all the profits, they aren’t really growing their business, not in any meaningful way. They are stuck on the feast or famine hamster wheel and not creating a sustainable repeatable business model.

?? I start my book by discussing the behind-the-scenes stuff that nobody tends to speak about. Things like the importance of your company name or how to best structure your business will have long-term ramifications for your success. If you’ve never owned a staffing agency, how do you know where to even begin? Plus, it’s so important to get guidance on what it costs to start and run a profitable business.

?? The real question I’d encourage you to ask yourself though is whether you are actually an entrepreneur and have what it takes to succeed?

Are you actually cut from the entrepreneur’s cloth or is being an Intrapreneur your real forte? You might be the Ying to somebody else’s entrepreneurial Yang. How do you recognize the difference in yourself?

Do you have your eyes open to the sacrifices that await you in this unknown but exciting journey?

?? I also dedicate a whole chapter to protecting your dreams. Well-meaning friends and family members will question your intentions as you are already on a “safe career path” with a comfortable pay check, and the risk is too big. The absolute truth is you need to protect your dreams!

Particularly after the pandemic we have all faced, we’ve noticed that social media is a much more reliable tool than we ever thought it would be. A solid online presence will make you stand out from all the noise. Getting noticed is critical, both during your start-up phase and as you seek to grow!

?? It’s crucial to understand the core client-candidate motivators that impact every aspect of the recruitment game. Managing the recruiting process and post-care are essential for profitable repeat and referral business (from both candidates and clients).

For example, without a strategic post-care plan, you are at risk of replacements and avoidable relationship damage. Have you implemented a bullet-proof approach in your business?
