Launch and Leverage: Accelerating Value in Legaltech
By Rick Hellers, CEO at Scan Logic
In the four decades I’ve spent in legaltech, I’ve seen firsthand how frustrating it can be for firms to invest in new tools only to wait months—or even years—before they see any real benefits. When I speak with firms, their stories are often the same: they want technology that will improve their firm’s work product and operations, yet too often, they’re left wondering why it takes so long to get there. I’ve come to believe that the legaltech industry needs to fundamentally rethink how we deliver value, focusing on immediate impact rather than lengthy, drawn-out implementations.
The Frustration Gap in Legaltech Implementation
At my previous company, we developed solutions to manage scanning and printing tasks at law firms. But these tools, like many in legaltech, required significant integration efforts—both with multifunction devices (MFDs) and the firm’s accounting and billing systems. To be fully operational, firms also had to engage in substantial change management and retrain staff on new workflows. This all could take up to a year or more, meaning our clients had to wait before they saw a return on their investment.
Reimagining Legaltech Rollouts with the “Quick Start” Mindset
With legaltech playing a more central role at law firms, the focus needs to shift from “launch and wait” models to “launch and leverage” models. Firms need agile solutions that can be integrated quickly and deliver immediate benefits. They want to see quick wins to justify their investment and keep stakeholders motivated.

When I joined Scan Logic, my team and I made it a priority to streamline the implementation process. We designed a Quick Start program to allow our clients to see immediate, tangible results almost immediately, without much effort, even as the complete rollout takes place over a longer period.
Building a Sustainable Legaltech Ecosystem
Ultimately, my goal with Scan Logic—and something I hope becomes an industry-wide priority—is to make legaltech a value-driven investment from almost the first moment. For too long, the traditional implementation model has dominated, resulting in delayed satisfaction and lost momentum for clients–causing a level of frustration that pervades the entire industry. By shifting to a model that provides immediate functionality and adaptability, we’re not just helping law firms operate more efficiently; we’re supporting a sustainable ecosystem where technology serves as an asset, not an obstacle.
This Quick Start mindset reflects a promise to clients that we understand the pressures they face, and we’re committed to delivering solutions that work without the wait. In an industry where time is a precious commodity, accelerating value delivery isn’t just good business—it’s a fundamental change that redefines what legaltech should be.

3 个月Great insight, Rick! The ‘Quick Start’ mindset is exactly what the legaltech industry needs. I’ve seen firms lose momentum during long implementation cycles, leading to wasted potential. What do you think are the key steps to ensure both quick wins and long-term success?
