Launch of "Global Alliances" June'22
"Our biggest challenge in this new century is to take an idea that seems abstract – sustainable development – and turn it into a reality for all the world's people."
The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint for achieving a better and sustainable future for all. According to the United Nations, these goals address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice.
But how many of us are really aware of what these goals are?
And how many of us think of sustainability when we really do something?
It's time we realize that sustainability is not just a goal but it is a way of life.
Sustainability has to be integrated into whatever we do every day.
We are running out of time, and we don't have a planet B to go to.
As Greta Thunberg Swedish activist said while addressing the World Economic Forum in 2019 at Davos, Let us act as we would in a crisis. Let us "act as if our house is on fire. Because it is."
The Global Alliances Digital Magazine is another humble effort from Global Council for the Promotion of International Trade, to work towards sustainability and take it forward beyond 2030.
Let us be sustainable in everything we do.

On September 25, 2021, I had the honour of announcing that the Global Council for the Promotion of International Trade will establish a number of global alliances to promote the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) contained therein. These SDGs are a global call to end poverty, protect the environment, and ensure humanity's well-being. We are committed to accomplishing these objectives by 2030.
I believed then, and continue to believe now, that these objectives can only be achieved through multilateral and multisectoral cooperation. This is why SDG 17, which calls for partnership-based sustainable development, is one of the most important goals.
The rapid spread of the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrates the extent to which we are interconnected through travel, commerce, and communication. To put an end to this pandemic, we need global cooperation and partnerships to treat the sick, create a vaccine, and rebuild communities and economies harmed by this deadly virus. As with the pandemic, we are aware that climate change poses a threat to lives and livelihoods due to the increased frequency and severity of storms, floods, wildfires, and droughts caused by rising temperatures.
The governments, businesses, and civil society organisations of the world must urgently collaborate to address these issues and all SDGs, such as ending poverty and hunger, expanding access to education and health care, promoting gender equality, and fostering sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
The Global Council for the Promotion of International Trade is proud to release "Global Alliances," a global digital magazine to promote how partnerships can accelerate progress on the SDGs by better aligning the visions and designs to the key characteristics of transformative change. The magazine also identifies the key success factors that are common among partnerships with transformation potential.
I urge readers to read the magazine and utilise this information to embrace partnerships in order to achieve the SDGs. To ensure a sustainable future for all, we must take bold, decisive, transformative action.
