Laughter: The Ultimate Mood Lifter in Stressful Times

Laughter: The Ultimate Mood Lifter in Stressful Times

Don't you love how a decorative spiral spins and appears to rise only to dip again? Which is what happens with someone suffering from anxiety and panic attacks.

They appear to be okay, but within them is a spiralling range of emotions waiting to spill over and affect everything.

I have witnessed it both with friends and with clients. They continue to work, pretending everything is fine, going through the motions of life, but you can sense and see that they are disinterested and lacking motivation.

The simplest of things could tip them into an anxiety or even a panic attack. It is perfectly understandable, and I am sure you can appreciate why.

But then the silliest of comments can turn things around, which was the case at the beginning of the year when, during a conversation, I unwittingly made a client laugh.??

Nothing had been said, but I could sense they were struggling to remain attentive as we spoke about where to find suitable photo images.

Regretfully, or maybe not, the site Shutterstock, an America-owned company offering royalty-free photos, was mentioned.

I wanted to confirm I had heard the name correctly.

Unfortunately, when I attempted to say it back, I became tongue-tied and changed the word to Shutter***k. I could end up in the LinkedIn prison for inappropriate language if I mention what I said. Therefore, I will leave it to your imagination.

But you are welcome to send a private message. I will respond.

It was a perfectly innocent tongue-twisting mistake, but the result was fits of laughter, a mistake to go down as one of the best mood lifters ever.

And a very witty story to repeat, to raise even more laughter.??

Laughter can be an icebreaker, a mood lifter, or simply a great way to ease tension. I use it with clients to change their moods or make them question the absurdity of their beliefs.

My conversation on Friday, during the discussion of the monthly marketing plan, was another one of those moments when I disrupted our meeting because of laughter.

Part of the plan is to have a theme for each month of the year.??

It gives structure to my posts and for the launch of my podcast, Empowered Women Life Leaders, where I interview guests on a range of topics related to improving life and business.

I had already decided that November would be a month of health; however, I misheard 'a month of health' and consequently thought it was a month of hell.

It summarises the many ups and downs many people are experiencing currently leading to high levels of anxiety and panic attacks.

Ultimately, there will always be moments that lift you. It's finding more of those moments, and to help you do so, download the Proven best Process to be FREE of Stress & Anxiety from https://karenbashford.com/resources

What a fabulous post Karen Bashford. I do laugh a lot and see the funny side of things but notice that people do tend to be very serious these days. There’s nothing like a good laugh to help us feel positive.

This was a great read Karen Bashford and reminds me of something I said in a voice note to one of my clients who's a brilliant photographer. Instead of saying "photo shoot", my mouth came out with "photo shxt"! It made me laugh and she found it hilarious when she was listening to my message ??

Even in the darkest times laughter can make everything brighter. And with you Karen life keeps getting brighter. Having been on that call with you about the Month of Hell I can honestly say is also the way you said it. It's one of those moments where you had to be there. I have been on many calls with you over the years and you do have a gift in reaching deep into people's soul and exterminate whatever it is that is causing you pain and trauma. You are more than a gift, a true lifesaver.

I love laughter - its the key element in my life and I'm sure some of my humour on an all too regular basis is misplaced!! The way my brain works it mishears something which makes it funny and I comment even though I do know what was meant to be said, as I love raising the vibe all around me and laughing Karen Bashford .. its so good for the soul. ??
