Latino Professionals Association Celebrates Members' Accomplishments

As we approach the Annual Brindis Del Exito Celebration on April 1, 2017 at the Edgewater, I would like to share the importance of this gathering for our organization and community.

See it, be it

We all heard that saying over and over, but what does it mean? How does it translate into our professional lives? After graduating from college, I joined a company in Madison, WI as a staff accountant. The culture at the company is one of the best and they are often recognized as an employer of choice. Looking back, I realize now that the two Latino executives this company had, allowed me to not even think about whether or not I could grow to an executive role in my career. They were people who were not only visible but also accessible to me. After I transitioned into different companies in Madison, I learned how much of a rarity this was. The Brindis brings together accomplished professionals in their respective fields. Celebrating them collectively increases our visibility for generations to come and opens the possibilities for all Latinx youth to vision their future.

Changing the narrative

Too often the Latino community contributions, impact, and value is reduced to legal status. Showcasing our membership gives us the opportunity to celebrate our collective impact. It shows that our success benefits the community at large. It demonstrates that we are not here to take or destroy, we are here to build, improve and contribute.

Mentoring, coaching and sponsoring

The Latino Professionals Association (LPA) recognizes that it is critical to our mission to create spaces where our members can get a glimpse of the talent we have. The highlighted individuals are in a unique position to give back to our community through mentoring, coaching and sponsoring. They have a rich network that can be of great benefit to every LPA member. One of my best memories from last year’s Brindis del Exito was introducing our LPA member Glorily Lopez, to a high school student who wanted to learn about how to become an immigration lawyer.
