Latin America's first electric route opens in Uruguay

On December 27, 2017 the Chairman of the Boards of UTE (Uruguay state power utility) and ANCAP (Uruguay state oil company) toured the six battery charging centers installed between two of the main tourist destinations, Colonia del Sacramento and Punta del Este. By March, the route will reach Chuy in the eastern border with Brazil, and in a second stage it will cover the whole country with charging stations approximately 60 km apart from each other.

As of today, electric vehicles can travel the entire coastal strip between both cities with the peace of mind of having charging points for the battery. The service is provided at ANCAP service stations located approximately 60 kilometers apart from each other along routes 1, 101 and Interbalnearia, and it will be free until March 21, 2018. The electric vehicles that currently circulate in the country have an autonomy that ranges between 150 and 300 kilometers.

To access the charging points, the electric vehicles shall have an IEC 62196 Type 2 connector (commonly referred to as Mennekes).

The charging stations are located at the following points:

• ANCAP Colonia del Sacramento (Route 1 km 177.500). 43 kW EVSE
• ANCAP Rosario (Route 2 km 130.300). 22 kW EVSE.
• ANCAP Punta de Valdez (Route 1 km 66). 22 kW EVSE.
• ANCAP Carrasco Airport (Route 101 km 19). 43 kW EVSE.
• ANCAP San Luis (Route Interbalnearia km 63.500). 22 kW EVSE.
• UTE Station Punta del Este (Captain Miranda and Trinquete). 22 kW EVSE.
