I grew up in the Insurance Adjusting business of my fathers. I started working as a professional Auto Appraiser 18 Yr. old handling Central Fla area from Atlantic coast, Palm coast to Vero Beach to Gulf of Mexico an Tampa area down to Venice. I have 42 years as a Professional All Lines Adjuster and and a Expert in Auto Damage Appraising & Adjusting. I started writing Appraising Auto & Truck when you really had to know what your doing. I started in 1980 using Mitchell & Motors crash manuals. Labor rate for Body was $14,00 an Hr. paint materials was $8.00 and hour. I owned and have managed a few Dealership Body shops and even as a Service writer for Datsun when it was a Datsun not Nissan. I have seen it all it has gotten so far out of hand and so many Bigger IA firms handing appraisers when most of their staff really doesn't know what they are doing they have drove down the cost of Handing Appraisals for $60.00 and expect free Supplements included. I was making in 1980 60% of $95.00 appraisals for a fee Plus photos at $1.40 each 25 cents a mile over 50 miles radius. Everything has gotten out of hand and while Insurance companies will not pay for a quality Appraisers, abandoning vehicles in shops Needs reform. good article.
