The Latest Social Buzzz

Welcome to the first Social Buzz of 2025, where we are bringing you the most up-to-date news from the ever-evolving world of social media from our resident Social Media Marketing Strategist, Tracey Nolan.

There is a LOT going on!?

???Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced in a video that its platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, will no longer implement a fact-checking policy, instead relying on community notes like what X is doing. He says he also plans to get rid of restrictions on topics like immigration and gender. The news comes two weeks before Trump transitions into office and is a pivotal moment in the ongoing battle between free expression and the need for responsible content moderation.

???The full impact of Meta’s policy change obviously remains to be seen. Will the move help foster a more open, free-flowing environment for users, or will it unleash a new wave of misinformation that is harder to contain? And will this post-truth environment be hospitable to brands?

???In further dystopian news, Meta is stepping back its plans to introduce AI profiles to Facebook and Instagram, scrambling to delete their own accounts after an intense user backlash.

?? LinkedIn allows boosting of posts on Company Pages but now is finally testing the option for users to do the same for their personal content. Right now this is just being tested with a small number of users in the U.S., but could make things a lot easier for those trying to strengthen personal brands and companies that want to elevate thought leaders within their ranks.

?? ?Instagram is testing scheduled DMs! This is a feature that could be very useful for community managers doing grassroots reach outs via the platform.?

?? YouTube is testing a cool new feature where creators can respond to comments on their videos using voice notes.

?? Getty Images is buying Shutterstock to create a $3.7 billion visual content company.?The merger comes at a time when companies that use still images are facing increased competition from images generated by artificial intelligence.?

?????? The U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments this Friday morning over whether TikTok should be banned in the U.S. if it doesn’t separate from Chinese parent company ByteDance, a major case that will have far-reaching implications for?millions of users.
