Ekaterina Zaharieva, the EU’s next commissioner for start-ups, research and innovation- breezed through a soft Brussels grilling, with a promise?to simplify Horizon Europe and FP10.?
Most MEPs liked her performance, but she got good marks from the research and innovation bubble too. Zaharieva is now seen?as an advocate for more independence in EU research programming and a strong voice for increasing R&D investment.?
In the latest look at leaked 2025 Horizon Europe work programmes (that are all being put on open access by Science|Business), we find out the EU is out to better understand the factors behind authoritarian political movements, with plans to increase the funding for research in this area.??
