Kastle System's Back-to-Work Barometer
The Kastle Back to Work Barometer provides a snapshot of workplace occupancy levels across major U.S. metro areas, showing the percentage of employees returning to office (RTO) based on access control data. As of October 28, 2024, the 10-city average occupancy is 51.4%, showing minimal fluctuation over recent weeks. Cities like Austin and Houston lead with higher occupancy rates, at 64.1% and 60.9%, respectively, while cities such as San Francisco and Philadelphia remain lower, at 41.6% and 42.0%.
The data shows a gradual return to the office, with small increases in occupancy across most cities. This suggests that while RTO initiatives are making a difference, they’re bringing steady adjustments rather than major shifts in attendance.
