Unfold the future of electronic based systems. Unfold yourself.
A message from Gerald Murauer , CEO of SAL:
"It is my great pleasure to congratulate the Power Electronics team for winning another award for their outstanding work on the Tiny Power Box! This showcase project reveals the enormous importance of a long term partnership and effective cooperation. We hope that this project can be an inspirational example for further achievements."
A message from Bruno Clerckx , CTO at SAL:
"Scientific work is a crucial factor for excellent research results. In 2022, we were able to submit 128 publications, incl. 53 peer-reviewed scientific papers and 63 peer-reviewed conference contributions. It's a priority of mine to present our work at (international) conferences and in magazines, therefore I am very happy about the paper presentation at CISS and the cover story in the magazine Advanced Sensor Research."
Paper Presentation at CISS
From March 22-24, the 57th Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS) took place in Baltimore, USA. In the course of this conference, Pedro Julian and his PhD student Nicolás Rodriguez (both Embedded AI Research Unit) presented their paper "Architecture Analysis for Symmetric Simplicial Deep Neural Networks on Chip". This paper analyzes architectures to implement a Neural Network accelerator for SymSim operations optimizing the number of parallel cores to reduce the computational time.
SAL Cover Story in Advanced Sensor Research
Electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste stream in the world. The number of sensors deployed increases rapidly, which raises the urgent demand for sustainable sensor solutions. Addressing this challenge, the team around Jürgen Kosel , Head of Sensor Applications, developed a Multifunctional Biface Sensor Tag, enabling battery-free wireless measurements with three different environmental sensors. Their work was published as a cover story in the journal "Advanced Sensor Research".

How Human is Innovation?
Innovations are not purely technical. With this in mind, Patrick Habernik , Innovation Expert at SAL, uncovered how “human” an innovation is at weXelerate 's “Innovation Afterhour” in Vienna. In his talk, he addressed innovations from their development to their use by taking perspectives from sociology of technology and innovation research, and thus inspired the audience to discover new sources for technical innovations. Afterwards, Jürgen Kosel , Head of Research Unit Sensor Applications, presented the potential of printed and flexible electronics and the advantages of bundling it with SAL’s Cooperative Research Model.
