The latest news and events from HS Creative Operations – New York Event Special!
HS Creative Operations
Henry Stewart Events is the leading producer of Creative Operations content worldwide.
The first ever co-located Creative Operations, Design Operations, Photo Studio Operations, and Creative Production events took place in The Big Apple on May 25.
The events provided a fantastic opportunity to learn, connect, and share experiences with peers across the four disciplines. With those who had an Access All Areas Pass able to choose between four tracks of content.
The day kicked off with a welcome from the Conference Chairs of the four events, Andrea B. Ruskin , Paul Nicholson , Lauren Stefaniak Smith , and Jilanna Wilson .??
At Creative Ops, Ali Hanan opened the first session of the day with an interactive power talk about busting bias in the creative process. Ali explained how to unpack bias that appears in the creative process and create powerful new narratives that power stand-out creative – which, in turn, grows your brand.
This was followed up by an insightful discussion between Stacie Santana , Barbara Vining , and Colleen Crego Strouse, PMP, CSM of The Home Depot, who shared how they navigated the challenge of shifting from channel-specific creative and marketing execution to an omnichannel approach - operationalizing the strategy into action. Plus, Nick Zappas, MSPM , Walmart Creative Studio, discussed introducing Creative Project Management at Edelman SoCal and Disney’s Yellow Shoes - the lessons he and the teams learned, and how it informs his new, exciting journey with Walmart.
Kate Schmieding from the Office of General Services brought a different perspective to the conference - as she works for a publicly funded government department and faces the challenge of keeping creatives motivated. Finally, there was also a panel discussion on the hot topic of using AI and the challenges and opportunities facing creating operations when using it.
At Creative Production, the Wayfair team consisting of Katelyn Kennedy , Brianne Gallagher , and Kyle Wright took part in a fireside chat discussing the benefits of keeping broadcast and channel work in-house without ever relying on an AOR (an agency of record).
Wayfair shared the secrets to success and how they continue to learn and evolve their in-house agency model. We also heard from speakers representing Google Cloud, FleishmanHillard, Los Angeles Rams and Vox Creative, who shared their insights on a range of topics including creative leadership, in-house partnerships, and the core principles of production!
Over at Photo Studio Ops, Carrie Crow , VP of Creative at The Beachbody Company, explained how photography can be the key to unlocking success in an increasingly complex and demanding marketing ecosystem. Other highlights included a discussion featuring the Yoox Net-A-Porter Group, who offered their valuable insights into how communication and collaboration can be put into practice in a global business setting. Later that day, Matthew Miller of Saks shared the story of a studio buildout exploring best practices and high-level considerations when building a new space for the team. There was also an interesting panel discussion on talent hosted by Clair Carter-Ginn and featuring representatives from Ralph Lauren, Saks Fifth Avenue, and FourTwo Creative .
Meanwhile, at Design Ops NY, David M. , veteran digital design leader and co-author of the DesignOps Handbook, opened with an insightful discussion about the challenges facing DesignOps; presenting his own evaluations and questions for the wider DPD community. The conference also included a session from Jennifer Price , IBM, on the context of IBM’s legacy design program and specifically how the IBM DesignOps community was formed based on the need to take a more sophisticated approach to operationalize design. Elsewhere, we heard from Jose Coronado , J.P. Morgan, on the lessons learned, and engagement, growth and amplification strategies to apply in your own organizations.
Not only were there inspiring keynotes from expert speakers and insightful discussions taking place at the events, attendees also had time to explore the impressive exhibition space. There were opportunities to network with peers and find out about the latest technology and solutions from the conference sponsors. You could also win prizes and even get a professional headshot in the exhibition space!
