?? Sigiriya, Sri Lanka, intensifies sustainable tourism

Since June 2023, Green Destinations has been working in Sri Lanka to promote and facilitate the adoption of sustainable tourism certification among destinations and MSMEs with the support of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and the 联合国开发计划署 Biodiversity Finance Initiative (UNDP Biofin) in Sri Lanka.

Earlier this month, several stakeholders gathered at the Ramada Hotel Colombo to discuss a comprehensive approach to promoting sustainable tourism practices in Sigiriya. ???? This activity is part of a series of capacity-building initiatives in the country to support service providers with a high commitment towards sustainability. And those whose value propositions are underpinned by biodiversity and culture.

The project also offers a remarkable opportunity for the first 200 qualifying businesses in Sri Lanka to obtain Sustainable Tourism Certification free of charge.

?? Green Destinations supports the Bhutan SUSTOUR Project

The Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators (ABTO), the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Bhutan (HRAB), the Allianz Selbsta?ndiger Reiseunternehmen (ASR) and the European Centre for Eco Agro Tourism (ECEAT) are partners in the SUSTOUR Bhutan project. The aim is to promote sustainable tourism by integrating MSMEs into sustainable supply chains and raising consumer awareness in the country. ????

The Bhutan SUSTOUR Project plays a pivotal role in supporting Bhutan's tourism sector at various levels. At the national level, it emphasises the importance of an enabling policy environment. This environment aids the Royal Government of Bhutan in its endeavours to develop the country's small and medium enterprises (SMEs) sustainably. At the destination level, the project fosters collaboration among different tourism stakeholders. This is achieved through the development of supply chains that focus on more sustainable products and services. Finally, at the level of individual tour operators, the project concentrates on supporting the implementation of sustainable consumption and production practices within tourism-related enterprises.

Green Destinations supports the project through the European Centre for Eco Agro Tourism . The Bhutan SUSTOUR Project is funded by the SWITCH-Asia Official Project, funded by the European Union .
