The devices may be configured for implantation at a number of sites in the patient's body, including the brain, spinal cord, nerves or limbs. The controller may be arranged to: process the inputs by decoding the inputs to determine an intended stimulation of nerves of the patient rostral of the position of the first device on the spinal cord; and produce stimulation signals that, when applied to the patient's spinal cord by the second device, produce said intended stimulation of the nerves of the patient.
