Milford based charity iCare are delighted to bring a smile to the face of Breda Wilson, as a result of bringing music to the ears of her son Patrick. Breda wrote to iCare in a bid to grant her wish once her son Patrick was left devastated when he was unsuccessful in securing tickets to well known musician Liam Gallagher’s concert. Patrick, who has been diagnosed with Cancer since he was 9 years old, currently spends his days confined to a wheelchair at the mercy of his brain and spinal tumours. Breda told iCare her son Patrick is determined to live a life without limits regardless of his illness and he along with friends, were delighted to hear of their favourite artist touring in Belfast. Despite Patrick’s best efforts to secure tickets, wheel chair accessible tickets were sold out almost immediately leaving Patrick in a position of being unable to attend the concert along with his friends.
The concert due to take place in the SSE Arena, Belfast on Monday 30th October seemed as Oasis’s very own song title puts it ‘half the world away’ for Patrick. Mother Breda, decided not to ‘look back in anger’ and made a wish through iCare as she knew how disappointed and isolated her son felt.
iCare were touched by the wish request and were determined to take a Cinderella must go to the ball approach in a modern day, Patrick must go to the concert attitude. iCare were once again able to provide a good will gesture through iCare wishes, a scheme set up to ensure many others, like Patrick are not left feeling disadvantaged because of illness or disability. After the charity secured wheelchair accessible tickets, iCare representative Lesley Hegarty was able to visit Patrick on Friday 7th October, just in time before his 26th Birthday to deliver the tickets and grant yet another iCare wish. Patrick will be attending the concert scheduled for later this month along with this Dad and can be seen in the picture below as delighted he will now be going to the ball….or at least a concert for now.
