The Latest Google Business Profile Website Update Every Small Business Needs to Know

In the fast-paced world of online marketing, keeping up with the latest updates and trends is important in order for small businesses to stay relevant and competitive. Recently, Google announced a major update. Beginning in March 2024, websites that were created using Google Business Profiles will be turned off.?

While this action will not affect your Business Profile itself, if you had created a website using GBP, which was formerly known as Google My Business, you will need to create a new website.

Google Business Profile Websites to be Deactivated

Powered by the information on your business profile, the websites made with Google Business Profiles are basic websites with domains that end with business.site and negocio.site. When customers visit your website made with Google Business Profile, they’ll be redirected to your Business Profile instead.?

Once these websites are turned off, customers visiting your site will be temporarily redirected to your Business Profile. The redirect will only work until June 10, 2024. After that date, your customers will get a “page not found” error message when attempting to visit your website.?

Please note that other than the website update, your Business Profile will not be affected. Also, if you don’t have a website made with a Google Business Profile, the changes discussed in this article will not affect you.?

If you are using a website made with a Google Business Profile for your Ads campaign, you will need to update your ads to link to a different website before March 1, 2024 to keep them running. If you are not able to achieve that by this date, you can pause your ad campaigns.

For a third-party domain campaign in which you are using a custom domain name to forward traffic to the website made with your Google Business Profile, customers visiting this domain will also be redirected to your Business Profile. The redirect will only work until June 10, 2024. That is why it is important that you sign in to your hosting company account and choose a “Redirect” option to forward your third-party domain to a different website before June 10, 2024.

Create a New Website to Add to your Google Business Profile

Although it will be inconvenient to lose the website you created within your Google Business Profile, you should still keep your profile to continue to showcase your business online and share relevant information and updates.
