IN THIS MONTH'S CYBER NEWS

Key Insights from SonicWall’s 2025 Cyber Threat Report

SonicWall’s latest Annual Cyber Threat Report highlights the relentless evolution of cyber threats, with SMBs increasingly in the crosshairs. With 61% of new exploit code used within 48 hours of discovery, businesses are struggling to keep pace - underscoring the importance of Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) for real-time threat detection and response.

IoT & Business Email Compromise (BEC) Attacks Expand

  • IoT attacks skyrocketed by 124%, while encrypted threats jumped 93%.
  • BEC now accounts for 33% of cyber insurance claims (up from 9% in 2023). AI-powered impersonation attacks are making fraud even harder to detect.
  • Vendor Email Compromise (VEC) rose by 68% in construction and 70% in retail, with attackers manipulating payment processes.

SonicWall’s report reinforces the need for a Zero Trust security model, real-time patch management, and 24/7 Security Operations Centre (SOC) services.

Apple pulling Advanced Data Protection in the UK: What does this mean for you?

You’ve probably heard that Apple has announced that it will remove Advanced Data Protection (ADP) for UK users, following government pressure to allow access to encrypted iCloud data. This means that UK users will no longer have the option to secure their iCloud backups, photos, notes, and voice memos with end-to-end encryption (E2EE). But what does this actually mean for you?

It's important to note that for most users (those without ADP), nothing will change. Your iCloud data will still be encrypted, but Apple can access it if legally required, just as it could before.

If you’re concerned about privacy, consider:

?? Using local backups instead of iCloud (e.g., backing up to a Mac or external drive). ?? Encrypting sensitive files before uploading them to the cloud. ?? Exploring third-party encrypted storage options.
