New crawling is on its way - its name is Mobile First Index
What Does Mobile First Index Actually Mean?
Core parts of any search algorithm - Crawling, Indexing, Ranking, and Retrieval
Right now, Google index is based on the desktop site that gathers information and process it based on Googlebot with the desktop agent. Only afterwards. Google crawls the mobile website with the Googlebot to gather mobile insights.
The later does not generates a new index it is used to gather additional information. In case of a contradiction between the desktop and mobile website, the desktop index prevails.
Until now.
Google is all in to Mobile - where mobile traffic long passed the desktop one, the Google desktop right-side ads have gone to comply to the Google SERP mobile experience
Types of mobile vs. desktop companies
- Same mobile content and desktop content site - you're all set
- Different mobile content and desktop content site - your desktop content will not be shown nor ranked nor retrieved with Google
- Don't have a mobile site - Google will crawl only your desktop site
- Don't have a desktop site either - this article is not for you, click here and connect with me and perhaps enjoy my circles instead
Google is fair - it will roll out the mobile first indexing and ranking on sites that are prepared and will not index all websites altogether. Good news? not necessarily, sites that are not prepared will have to wait longer to be indexed.
When will it roll out - not before 2018
