Could you introduce yourself and discuss what you do for the United Aerial Firefighters Association (UAFA)??

My name is John Gould, and I am the President of the Board of Directors for the United Aerial Firefighters Association.?The initiative creating UAFA began a year ago with an effort to organise a number of companies representing a wide spectrum of aerial firefighting, all of whom shared a belief that industry representation was necessary and expressed a desire to create an organisation that could grow to into a voice for the industry.??

Over the past year, I think we’ve accomplished that, and moving forward it’s my job to work with every member of UAFA to ensure that we can speak with a unified voice to identify common problems in our industry and find realistic, workable solutions. We hope that voice can be heard by Congress and the appropriators as advocacy for budgets necessary to have an effective firefighting force, but also as a voice for partnership with our customers.?

I’m Martin Joosen , I’m the Managing Director for LION Protects EMEA. Our training products and solutions are produced over here in The Netherlands and are sold to the EMEA market. The office and production are split 50/50 here as our engineering department and product development all takes place in The Netherlands in house.??

LION is renowned for its innovative design and industry changing products for training. Could you just discuss a little bit about how LION’s technologies assist firefighters on the job??

We design, build and provide everything that is related to fire rescue training. Whether it be fire training products that can include smoke generators or smaller training props where firefighters can train in different scenarios up to building bigger simulators. The Importance Of Fire Stopping Testing & Certification

When it comes to specifying?Passive Fire Protection (PFP)?products and solutions, it is mandatory to include the?fire resistance rating, i.e., the period in which these products perform their protective role and can contain a fire. Different?fire ratings?will be required, depending on local fire regulations, building types, fire strategy, etc. A product will only be awarded a classification, and therefore assigned a fire rating, if it passes rigorous fire testing.

LFB Welcomes Latest Action On E-Scooters

London Fire Brigade has welcomed?action?by train companies in response to?the?fire?risk of lithium batteries in electric?powered?personal?vehicles?on their service.

From June 1, e-scooters, e-unicycles, e-skateboards and hoverboards have been banned on trains and at stations run by?several train companies including Govia Thameslink Railway and Southeastern.

Deputy Commissioner Dom Ellis said:?“We are very pleased that further?train?operators?have taken action in response to?the risk?e-scooters?can pose and are trying to mitigate these risks.

“While these are positive steps,?our latest data shows that firefighters have attended 53?e-bike?fires?in London?already?in 2023, which is?four times as many?incidents as those involving?e-scooters.?Given e-bikes are not included in the ban,?we?are also encouraging?operators to?consider whether they have adequate safety measures in place?should an e-bike fire happen?on their service.”

Steve Blanco As President And Chief Operating Officer Of MSA - The Safety Company

Global safety equipment manufacturer MSA - The Safety Company announced that? Steve Blanco ?has been elected President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) by the company’s Board of Directors.?Mr. Blanco, 56, previously served as President of the company’s Americas business segment, a position to which he was appointed in 2017.?As President and COO, Mr. Blanco will oversee the continued implementation of the company’s strategic initiatives across MSA’s global portfolio.? Nish Vartanian ?will continue to serve the company as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

“Steve’s election reflects the confidence that our Board of Directors and I have in his ability to lead the initiatives that will drive our future performance and enhance our productivity, processes and products on a global scale,” said Mr. Vartanian.

Prior to MSA Safety, Blanco worked for 伊顿 as Vice President of Manufacturing for the company’s?$7 billion?Electrical Sector.?Before that, he worked for 福特 and 伟世通 , serving in a variety of engineering, plant management and operations roles.
