I recently spoke with the dementia guru, Teepa Snow, who shared her unique training methods and the importance of quality presence, and how engagement can improve dementia symptoms.?

“The problem right now is we don't have time to pull people off the floor for a half-hour training session. We are sending people into care with even less training and less contact with human beings than ever before.” - Teepa Snow.

Featuring in a two-part dementia episode, listen to Teepa’s insightful experience in changing attitudes and caring for people living with dementia: https://ltcheroes.com/dementia-talk-with-a-dementia-guru-teepa-snow/??

LaShawn Bethia, the Executive Director at the National Centre of Assisted Living, knows only too well the importance of effective communication in nursing. Having started her nursing career at the tender age of eighteen, she fought to gain respect from her elder peers and colleagues.??

“It’s really about the nurse's skill, their ability to assess the residents, and their ability to communicate effectively with physicians. The respect that I gained from physicians, my peers, and the individuals that I worked with, implanted in me that my role is important, that my job is important, and that everyone plays a role.”- LaShawn Bethia

Communication does not come naturally to everyone. It takes perseverance and determination, but it can be done. Watch Bethia’s interview to see how she overcame her challenges with effective communication winning the respect of her peers:? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LjtItLjInA?

Well, that’s all for today, folks! I hope you enjoyed what we have put together. Until next time!
