There has been much speculation about changes to the migration landscape starting on 23 November 2024. Just ahead of this date, several important updates have emerged regarding Australia’s skilled migration program. Here’s an overview of the latest developments:?
The Skills in Demand and National Innovation visa programs are expected to offer new opportunities for skilled workers however, there is still no confirmed commencement date for these programs. The good news is that fact sheets and additional resources are currently being developed to assist in understanding the visa programs once they are launched.?
2. Global Talent Visas?
For those with pending Global Talent Visa applications or invitations, these will continue to be processed as normal. However, those who have submitted an Expression of Interest but have not yet been invited, would need to consider their eligibility for the new National Innovation visa once launched.??
3. Temporary Skill Shortage Visa?
Earlier this year, the Australian Government announced plans to reduce the work experience requirement for the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa from two years to one year for all applicants from 23 November 2024. However, since no legislative instrument has been released to implement this change, it is highly unlikely that the reduction will take effect on that date.?
The Department of Home Affairs had previously indicated that the Skills in Demand (SID) visa will also have a one-year work experience requirement. As the SID visa will replace the TSS visa, it is likely that the one year work experience requirement amendment will be delayed to align with the release of the SID visa. While the exact launch date for the SID visa is not yet confirmed, it is anticipated to be released before the end of the year.?
