As we enter November, law firms in major financial hubs are capitalising on rising demand for legal services, with a keen focus on strategic growth and refined recruitment processes to meet high hiring standards. This month has been one of our busiest across all five offices, with interview activity spanning a range of practice areas. While job opportunities are ample, firms are conducting in-depth interviews to secure the best-fit talent for their teams heading into 2025.

What does this mean for associates considering a move?

For associates contemplating a transition—particularly in Q1 of 2025—starting the process early is paramount. Take the time to thoughtfully evaluate each firm and navigate multiple recruitment processes to find the right fit.

If you are seeking a new challenge next year, there is still time to start applications and hit the ground running in 2025.

For those already in the interview process, preparation is key. Here are some essential tips to keep in mind:

  • Tailor your preparation for each interview. Research the partners you’ll be meeting and gain insights into their recruitment styles.
  • Be ready for technical questions at every stage of the process.
  • Show genuine enthusiasm for the firm, especially if relocation is part of the opportunity.
  • Make a strong impression on everyone you meet, from partners to junior staff and HR—even in brief encounters.
  • If interviewing with multiple firms, manage your schedule carefully.
  • Bring your A-game to every step of the process!


Activity in Asia

In our first month since establishing our Hong Kong office and welcoming Sonia Taylor to the team, we’ve been actively pursuing six off-market opportunities alongside live roles, with a strong focus on corporate, disputes, funds, and projects. This includes some fantastic opportunities with offshore firms.

Hong Kong firms show a marked preference for associates fluent in Mandarin, though certain finance and M&A roles remain open to associates qualified in the UK, Australia, and the United States.

In Singapore, U.S., Magic Circle and international firms are actively seeking talented associates across projects, finance, and M&A. More options are available to those qualified in the UK, Australia, and the U.S. due to less strict language requirements.
