The Latest in AI Development: Llama 2, OpenAI's Decision on GPT-4, RetNet, FreeWilly 1 & 2

AI is constantly evolving, with new exciting developments being announced- Read my summary and don't miss out :)

  1. Llama 2:?Meta has released the commercially licensed version of its extremely popular Llama model. This model was trained on 2 trillion tokens and has up to 70 billion parameters. It is a powerful language model that can be used for a variety of tasks, such as natural language generation, question answering, translation, code generation, and creative writing. Llama 2 is a significant improvement over the original Llama model, with several new features, including:

  • A larger vocabulary
  • A better understanding of the world
  • The ability to generate more creative and informative text

2. OpenAI Holds Back GPT-4 Image Features Due to Privacy Concerns:?OpenAI has been testing a multimodal version of GPT-4 with image-recognition support. However, the company has decided to hold back public access to this feature due to concerns about its ability to potentially recognize specific individuals. This decision comes after several high-profile incidents in which AI models have been used to identify people in images.

  • The image-recognition capabilities of GPT-4 are based on a technique called CLIP, which stands for Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training. CLIP uses a neural network to learn the relationship between images and text.

OpenAI has said that it is still working on ways to address the privacy concerns raised by the image-recognition capabilities of GPT-4. However, the company has decided to hold back public access to this feature until it is confident that these concerns have been addressed.

3. RetentiveNet, the Transformer Contender:?Microsoft Research has released a new architecture called RetNet. This architecture is a middle ground between recurrent models and transformers, and it has been shown to outperform transformers on some tasks.

  • RetNet is based on a technique called residual attention. Residual attention allows RetNet to learn long-range dependencies in the input sequence.
  • RetNet has been shown to outperform transformers on a variety of tasks, including machine translation and text summarization.

4. FreeWilly 1 and 2:?Stability AI has released two new, open-access, large language models (LLMs) called FreeWilly 1 and FreeWilly 2. Both models are based on the Llama 65B and LLaMA 2 70B foundation models, respectively, and have been fine-tuned with a new synthetically-generated dataset using Supervised Fine-Tune (SFT) in standard Alpaca format.

  • FreeWilly 1 demonstrates exceptional reasoning ability across varied benchmarks, while FreeWilly 2 reaches a performance that compares favorably with GPT-3.5 for some tasks.
  • Both models are research experiments and are released to foster open research under a non-commercial license. While Stability AI has conducted internal red-teaming to ensure the models remain polite and harmless, they welcome the community's feedback and help in further red-teaming.

These are just a few of the latest developments in the field of AI.

I am eager to see what new developments come out soon.
