Lateral pressure from the outriggers of a mobile crane on retaining wall berths can be precisely calculated based on Boussinesq's theory of lateral earth pressure, however the exact analysis is quite cumbersome and it become extremely complex if the wall is not vertical and or more number of outrigger pads are to be considered. MathCAD is an excellent tool for these complex evaluation of earth pressures , resulting forces,moments and their visual plots. This approach is adopted in the design of sheet piled and blockwork quay walls in many major marine projects.
