A product gets sold only when the customer finds its usefulness. Making profit for a business thus lies in introducing new products. The World Wide Web (www) got accepted by everyone globally. The E-mail got accepted by all because the entire population had a (latent) need for it. Google became a part of everyone’s life. There was a latent need for it. It is thus imperative to develop new yet easy-to-use products and create prospective and permanent customers. It is the logic of – zero to one.?

Indian marriages have many rituals. One of these is to present oneself to the guests in the function with proper attire suited to the occasion. The best Indian dress in marriage functions is – dhoti and kurta. The difficulty is – many of us do not know the wearing of these. A company – Manyavar – came up with the easy-to-wear version of dhoti kurta. The "Manyavar" started off selling its traditional wedding wear through larger retailers like Pantaloons, but its founder Ravi Modi vision was already established. In 2002, he incorporated?Vedanta Fashions Private Limited (VFPL),?and the company set up its first store in Bhubaneswar in 2008. Today, Manyavar has become an ethnic wear behemoth — the brand has?450 stores spread across 170 locations in India, Bangladesh, UAE, Nepal, and the US.?It has 100 flagship stores—along the lines of an expansive 16,000 sq ft showroom in Mumbai’s Lower Parel—and 12 international stores.

Now an Indian thinks of purchasing a dress from Manyavar when he thinks of social and marriage functions to perform or attend. The latent need of the mass is solved. Manyavar as the company created wealth by catering to the latent need of customers.?

In the field of explosives (for rock blasting) the latent need of mining engineers and blasting crew is for a strong yet simple product. ANFO in this regard is matchless. But its limitation is its use in watery, moist, and damp blast holes. If this limitation is taken out then this will rule the explosives market. The ANFO has to be made water-resistant. The nomenclature could be – WRANFO.

ANFO is a straight jacket product. It contains 94.5% AN, and 5.5% hydrocarbon oil. So, the energy content, and the cost structure are rigid. This can be made flexible by small changes with the introduction of new material. We call it – the Energy Modifier. With its introduction, one can have ANFO with desired strength. Cost too would come down. This ANFO is Tailorable depending upon the need of the customer. The name of the product is TANFO (Tailored ANFO).

The cost of the AN is rising. Fertilizer prices currently are at high levels, increasing substantially from year-ago levels, but have not reached all-time highs. Fertilizer prices were the highest in 2008, with those prices then declining during the severe phases of the 2008 financial crisis. Fertilizer costs for 2022 likely will be well above average, with much of the overall cost level depending on fertilizer prices moving forward, as well as farmer behavior. History suggests that fertilizer prices can change rapidly, likely bringing modifications to fertilizer cost projections. Further note that several periods of sharp declines have occurred in history. The price trend of AN during the last 16 years is very interesting to see.

AN is now both scarce and expensive. It is not the cup of tea for many explosives manufacturing organizations or EMO. So the latent need of the EMO is to have an alternative to AN to make explosives. The answer is available. High-energy materials as well as many commercial explosives can be manufactured with an oxidizer other than ANFO. The explosive thus is either Low Nitrate Explosive (LoNEx) or No Nitrate Explosive (NoNEx).
