The lasting revolution comes from deep changes in ourselves which influence our collective life. Anais Nin
Last week Shamshad Khan and I discussed the launch of the Social Intelligence Lab, along with participants, for example, across the US, India, Mexico, Qatar. The take aways from the discussion emphasized the importance of social intelligence in problem-solving, resource sharing, and negotiation.
As our practice community co-creates a social learning forum, we discussed the challenges for quality relationships and teams. Many challenges include the impact of technology on social skills, the benefits of different learning styles, and the disconnect between our social connections and what we need in our work. We also discussed the integration of applied improv techniques to enhance learning and the importance of a confidential, experiential practice space.
While technology and AI can connect people, it can also reduce social skills and capabilities, increase unfulfilling quality relationships because of the superficial nature of social media. Feelings of being separate from others in work and lack of connections in teams can lead to a sense of overwhelming stress and anxiety. Social and political dynamics and loss of work purpose can create a sense of deep isolation. Geographic and social distancing have led to feelings of marginalization and withdrawal while adapting to diverse cultural contexts.
