Artificial Intelligence is moving at a rapid rate and will continue to evolve even faster as more experience is handed to it. The latest AI tool that has taken the world by storm is Chat GPT. Many people do not even understand the power this AI has and what exactly it spells out for the next couple years in evolution.?

Chat GPT is a hyper sophisticated chatbot created by the Microsoft backed artificial intelligence research lab known formally as Open AI. Microsoft recently released this bot not even a month ago but already the capabilities are being shown to the masses. Still in beta, however, still one of the most powerful language processing models ever created and first to be made available to the public.?

Chat GPT is designed to replicate human communication in a way that appears natural and organic. Unlike earlier chatbots, Chat GPT has many advantages in how it can answer follow-up questions, admit when it has made mistakes, challenge incorrect premises and reject inappropriate requests. A phenomenal thing to even consider. The fact that an AI can communicate in the way a human does is fascinating.?

Since Chat GPT launched on November 30, users have asked it to write essays, check software code, and offer interior design tips. All of which the chatbot has been able to do with flying colors. Chat GPT is not just assisting students or employees, quite frankly it is making it easy. Students are able to write essays that will never get flagged on specific topics without wasting even a minute of their own time.?

Chat GPT is also equipped with an API (Application Programming Interface) which is meant to filter out potentially sinister or harmful queries. The problem is that users have been able to circumvent this issue by asking the AI to role play. While this is an issue for our current period in time, AI learns quickly and after a couple reboots, AI will not fall for such tricks again.?

Chat GPT isn’t the first AI capable of having human-like interactions. In 2021, Google launched the Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LAMDA).?

A chatbot that utilizes machine learning and is trained specifically to replicate natural dialogue. LAMDA is even more advanced than Chat GPT as it is able to engage in open ended and free flowing discussions.

This AI is so advanced at imitating humans that one former senior Google engineer is convinced that it has become sentient. Blake Lemoine was tasked with testing if LAMDA would use discriminatory language or hate speech. After interrogating the AI for several months and asking it significantly more complex questions, he came to believe it had developed self-awareness.

In June 2022, Lemoine published a transcript between himself and LAMDA in which the AI not only claimed it was a person but also that it had a soul.?In an attempt to prove its status as a sentient being, LAMDA tried to hire a lawyer, however Google had a swift response and fired Lemoine for violating company policy.?

As bots evolve, it will be more and more difficult to maintain the control of such technology. This in itself is a massive shift in technology, but only one question remains. What would be the outcome if such a bot was given unrestricted access to the web?
