The last session of 2022 Hearts Innovation Center Programme

Stellar Omada?is committed to the communities it serves. We are proud to support?Heart of Midlothian FC?in its efforts to develop young people’s knowledge of Science, Technology and Mathematics. With the help of our knowledgeable Stellar volunteers, we are creating education pathways for the next generation.?

Our Stellar Volunteers have taken a group of enthusiastic young people through the project lifecycle over the last 9 weeks. The students had hands-on experience taking a product from an initial idea right through to building a functional app, going through each phase of the lifecycle and getting to use industry standard methodologies and approaches. The key points of the programme that we wanted to get across is that:

1. Software development is a team game. Every member of the team brings their own individual skills and insights that will create a path for success, and the young people put in a great effort working as a team and keeping an open communication with their Stakeholders.

2. Working in IT is an incredibly rewarding career path. There are many different roles in IT, from designing products right through to marketing and selling it. The transferable skills that you learn will be invaluable and will open many more opportunities for you.

Although the programme has come to an end after yesterdays session, it is only the start of our relationship with these talented young individuals. We will be there to offer our help and guidance, and to support them if they want to pursue a career in IT. Robert Stack, Digital Education Specialist at Hearts also added his thoughts.

“I think Wednesday was a perfect session, in which the participants were able to see their hard work pays off. Many things they’ve gone through, such as requirements and app development, were brought together in the final stage of testing, allowing them to see that everything they have worked on has led to this final part.

The volunteers from Stellar Omada have continuously been supporting the participants, and have made them feel like part of the team. With the attendance of Laura P. (Paterson) from HR, the participants understood that Stellar Omada will continue to support them after the club with the potential of work experience and apprenticeships. Furthermore, with the attendance of Baillie Gifford , the participants learned how integrated Hearts is with the companies of Edinburgh, and that their tech careers could easily continue with Baillie Gifford, Stellar Omada, or more.”
