Last month’s top 3 posts (& why they performed so well) - Apr 2021

A wonderful good morning from Dubai,

and welcome back to our monthly newsletter.

No time for fluff today, as I’m on the run. So, let’s see which of our 53 posts in April 2021 performed "perfectly" and also give our best to understand why our audience resonated so much with them.

Publishing your first post is one of the biggest struggles we have to overcome on our journey to success on social. The switch from content consumer to content creator is associated with a lot of fears and insecurities. So is saying goodbye to an “old self” and/or career. You know what I mean. You know how it feels! Those amongst you who went on a similar adventure can relate (and yes, this is the “outcome” you “should” aim for in your content. Be relatable!).

Reconnecting to the humble beginnings, full of doubts, confusion and struggle and being grateful for it (!) has something “magical”. I guess the power of nostalgia plays a big role in it. Reading about my experience will very likely bring you back to YOUR own experiences. It brings us (you, the reader) and me (the writer) closer together... and, although not everyone involved in this situation here right now might fully admit it, that's what we both want. ;-)

Pairing these "ingredients" with the acknowledgement of your own results (that waaaay to many people are too sacred of doing, because “I don’t want to be seen as someone who brags.”) and celebrating that leap of faith (“Wait... you’re celebrating your bizz’s birthday? For real?!”) is somewhat bold. I wonder: Don’t we all secretly wish being a tiny little bit bolder than we often are in everyday life...?

Oh well, and the huge ballon is just friggin awesome (and a great “pattern interrupt” in a "typical newsfeed", which tends to be negative, grey and full of terrible news)! Did you ever wish to get a fun balloon but didn't buy one for yourself (because again "what will other people think?")? Lemme share a "secret" with you: You’re never too old for balloons! Yalla, as they say here. Get yourself one today. It will make the inner child in you smile as huge as I do in the picture. ;-)

Post #2 – Religion, friendship and “the truth”

I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to publish this piece of content because religion unfortunately still is a trigger and a "taboo" topic. BUT if you know how to diplomatically “play” with it, and triple check if you did not write anything that could be misunderstood by someone (although some people get offended by anything… whatever, maybe a topic for another day), you can design an impactful post.

IF you do that, PLEASE don’t abuse it for selling some meaningless stuff. Allow your inner compass, morals or however you want to call it, to guide you in placing a profound message, which luckily worked out for me here. I assume that the core idea I mentioned here is a - for a lack of a better word - “universal, pure truth”. Something that we ALL deeply know is true. It is not "polluted" by things like values, biases, socialization, etc.

On the other side, this post surely also did so well, because it tells the story of an unusual friendship. Two human beings who, in the minds of those who are still "sleeping" and blinded my labels like gender, citizenship and religion, “cannot be friends”. Such unusual stories just make us feel good, don't they? :-)

Last thought, timing is king/queen. Posting this during the Holy month of Ramadan will have definitely had an impact on the effect of this post. So yes, sometimes, it is a good idea to wait when you have created a piece of content but something in you tells you to wait a bit.

What do you get when you combine a beautiful cake, a unicorn, a blond woman with a colorful outfit and the achievement of a big milestone? - The success formula for a post that will very, very likely perform aaaa-amazingly. Over 84.000 views. Dayum!

I’ve played with a lot of elements which I’ve already described in the first post: The scroll stopper, the hero’s journey, the power of nostalgia and gratitude - I just mixed and matched them a bit differently here. To be honest, I was a bit "scared" that this post wouldn’t perform so well because of the just mentioned similarities. But hey… it did. Phew!

I’ve also sneaked in a teaser: Something new/different is coming soon… and that’s something we human beings just cannot resist. “New” or “secret” stimulates something in our brain. It feels exciting. It gets our focus and on social that’s the attention we’re aiming for.

Alright. That’s is for today!

Stay flawsome,

Dr. Nat
