Last month, we recycled over 100 tonnes of plastic waste ???? ??

It's been all hands on deck at Eco Brixs HQ over the summer as we've been working hard to recycle more plastic waste in a single month than ever before. Previously, the record stood at 91 tonnes in April 2024.

And the great news is, we did it! We smashed our target and even surpassed the 100-tonne mark, recycling 106 tonnes of plastic waste in July.

The amount of plastic we've been recycling monthly has significantly increased in the past year. In 2023, Eco Brixs was recycling 26 tonnes of plastic per month on average, whereas in 2024 the average amount has been 77 tonnes a month.

Increasing our production by this much has made the past few months one of our busiest times, involving?a concentrated effort from everyone in the community. At Eco Brixs HQ,?we've expanded our team and worked to become more efficient at recycling, whereas local people have been cleaning up and bringing us more plastic than ever before.

The team turns plastic waste into plastic flakes, which can then be used to make a variety of Eco-Products

This is a huge milestone for the Masaka region where we operate, as the more plastic Eco Brixs recycles, the larger the environmental and economic impact on the area.?

Firstly, more recycling means more plastic waste diverted from landfills or being burnt, the most common method of waste disposal in Uganda due to a lack of waste management systems. Secondly, as we buy every kilogram of plastic waste from the community, more recycling means more money in the hands of local people, tackling unemployment and poverty. For example, Eco Brixs purchasing 106 tonnes of plastic in July injected $21,832 into the local economy!

Now, that we've reached this significant milestone, recycling 100 tonnes a month, we'll be working hard to maintain it, and therefore continuing the significant environmental and economic impact it brings ?? ??

OUR NEW VIDEO: ECO BRIXS EXPLAINED

Have you seen our new video, which explains Eco Brixs' work in 2-minutes?

It demonstrates our circular model, from people picking up plastic litter on the street?to Eco Brixs'?recycling it into new Eco-Products. Plus, it features our HQ Recycling Team and CEO Andy, as well as summarising?how it's all making a difference.

"Eco Brixs recycles plastic, adding value through circular economy and closed-loop practices. This allows us to buy plastic from thousands of people in the community, creating these green, economic jobs for those who are living in the most vulnerable settings"

- Andy Bownds, Eco Brixs' CEO & Co-Founder
